The Problem & Solution
The goal with this project was to take the outdated Motor Authority design and create a fully responsive website without sacrificing ad revenue or user engagement. The new design also needed to adhere to the guidelines of the CMS and its restrictions on content formatting.
The updated design offers ideal viewability across desktop and mobile devices, without sacrificing ad impressions or ad revenue. An entirely new article page was designed to better showcase the custom written content provided by Motor Authority editors.
The Process
Motor Authority’s biggest weakness was its inability to respond to various screen dimensions, especially mobile devices. Designing a new layout for the website meant that we had to focus on creating a modular system that could scale across the entire experience. We took the little bit of data that we had on the existing site and baked that into the final wireframes to help guide us in a valid direction. Meetings with product executives and developers provided additional guidance on the feasibility of the designs and where features needed to be rethought in order to ship the product on time.
